Class A Motorhome Discussions

Class A motorhome is typically powered by a diesel engine mounted in the rear of the RV. Constructed on either a commercial truck chassis, a specially designed motor vehicle chassis, or a commercial bus chassis, a Class A motorhome resembles a bus in design and has a flat or vertical front end and large windows. In 1989, the addition of slideouts dramatically changed the industry because they allow a wider living area, provided that the vehicle remains completely stationary during their extension outwards.

Class B Motorhome Discussions

Built using a conventional van, to which either a raised roof has been added or the back replaced by a low-profile body (aka coach-built). In Australia, a Class B motorhome is quite distinct from a campervan, as it is based on a very large van that is, in turn, based on a truck. These motorhomes weigh up to 4500 kg and measure up to 6.4m in length. Popular vehicle makes include the Ford Trader and Isuzu NPR 300. Most Australian campervans are based on much smaller vehicles such as the Toyota HiAce, while the middle ground is now populated by larger vans that blur the definition of campervan or motorhome. These include the Ford Transit, Mercedes Benz Sprinter, Fiat Ducato, and Iveco. In the United States and Canada, class B motorhomes are built on several different chassis depending on the motorhome manufacturer and engine design aims. Common chassis include the Mercedes Benz Sprinter diesel, the Dodge Ram Promaster gas, the Chevrolet Express gas, and the Ford Transit gas and diesel.

Class C Motorhome Discussions

A Class C motorhome is built upon a minimal truck platform with a forward engine and transmission connected by driveshaft to a rear axle that propels dual-mounted rear wheels. Class C motorhomes are typically powered by gasoline (petrol) engines, although some have been converted to run on propane (autogas) while others use diesels. Transmissions are almost always automatic. The original chassis is equipped from the truck factory to the coach builder with an attached forward cab section that is van or conventional truck based (known as a cutaway chassis). In North America, the Ford E350 or E450 chassis are the most typical in the 21st century, while in prior times the Dodge/Ram and Chevrolet/GMC chassis were also used. Some smaller micro motorhomes were produced on Nisaan and Toyota platforms from 1972-1994, toyota motorhomes continue to have a strong following. Some very large Class C motorhomes are based on even larger truck platforms, such as the Ford F650 and Freightliner XC chassis. In Europe, Ford and Fiat manufacture the majority of Class C motorhome chassis.

Travel Triler, 5th Wheel & Truck Camper Forums

A travel trailer, camper trailer or caravan is towed behind a road vehicle to provide a place to sleep which is more comfortable and protected than a tent. A 'fifth-wheel' is a travel trailer supported by a hitch in the center of the bed of a pickup truck instead of a hitch at the back of a vehicle. The special hitch used for fifth-wheels is a smaller version of the one used on 18-wheeler trucks and can be connected by simply driving the tow vehicle under the trailer. Fifth wheel trailers are popular with full-time recreational vehicle enthusiasts, who often live in them for several months in one place, using their pickup truck tow vehicle for local errands. A fifth wheel trailer tows more securely than a traditional travel trailer because the hitch weight sits directly over the pickup truck's rear tires. Since part of a fifth wheel sits over the bed of the pickup, it also reduces the overall length of the vehicle/trailer package while allowing the same room as a comparable length travel trailer. Additionally, the hitch's location in the pickup's bed reduces the risk of jackknifing and allows for more maneuverability when backing. Because of the greater room available on the roads in North America, these vehicles are more popular in the United States and Canada than in Europe or other parts of the world. For uneven terrain a gooseneck hitch is an option to fifth-wheel.

Toy Haulers Discussion

An innovation in the travel trailer types is the "toy hauler" or "toy box". Half living area and half garage, these trailers allow "toys" to be brought to the countryside. A folding rear ramp give access for motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft or racecars. A generator provides power for the equipment

Pop Up, Tent Trailer and Teardrop Topics

Smaller travel trailers and pop-ups are still made with touring in mind. These generally are less than 18 feet (5.5 m) long and contain simple amenities. By design, they are lightweight and quick to set up or prepare for travel. Most weigh less than 3,000 pounds (1,400 kg) and can be towed with a large car or small truck depending upon its towing capacity. Lightweight pop-up trailers weighing less than 700 pounds (320 kg), such as the Combi-camper and Kamparoo can be towed even by small economy cars. Some exceptionally light travel trailers can be pulled by motorcycle. Fiberglass body construction entered the U.S. scene in 1971 with the introduction of the first U.S.-produced mini travel trailer, called the Playpac.

Spartan Motorhome Chassis Forum

Discussion related to the Spartan motorhome chassis. Riding on the industry’s best Class A motorhome chassis means something more. From a superior ride to better handling, coach owners who choose a Spartan chassis can “feel the difference” from the first time they take the wheel. RVs riding on Spartan chassis offer a smoother, safer ride, because they selectively source materials and component parts from the very best suppliers. They work hand-in-hand with our coach manufacturer OEMs to build the highest quality, longest lasting Class A chassis on the market, that retain their value, owner after owner.

Manufacture: Alfa - SeeYa Motorhome

ALFA LEISURE: Although Alfa Leisure and RVCG battled it out a few times, the industry was suprised to see it close down in April of 2008. Owned by Johnnie Crean, son of Fleetwood's founder John Crean, the 35-year-old company sold a controlling interest to a Los Angeles investment firm in 2005. Because Alfa kept going after three years of new ownership, the shutdown was unexpected -- especially since Johnnie Crean was still involved in its operation. Crean claimed that they had the same problem with sidewalls from Crane Composites as did National RV; and, combined with the economic turndown, continuing production became an "insurmountable" issue. Conclusion: You figure it out. They couldn't. So this manufacture: Alfa - SeeYa Motorhome was created to allow other Alfa owners and past employees help each other and share their knowledge. If you own a Alfa - SeeYa RV this will be a msg forum for you.
